Denk is the collection of sculptural ceramic furniture created by artist Mesut Öztürk.
The designs emerge from the artist’s ongoing structural experimentation, drawing deep inspiration from the Byzantine and Ottoman architectural heritage of Istanbul. While part of an open edition, each piece remains entirely unique due to the organic nature of the ceramic hand-building process.
In Turkish, denk translates to “balanced”, “equivalent”, or “right”. The name underscores the core technical challenge of the collection: achieving perfectly level, straight planes despite the natural tendency of clay to warp during the drying and firing stages. Additionally, the series explores the engineering balance of crafting pieces that are structurally lightweight, yet strong enough to support human weight.
